We are a group of people from Georgia and different parts of the world who are fascinated by Svaneti’s nature and culture that we want to help protect. When visiting mountain villages in Svaneti we talked to teachers about the eagerness of local children to learn new things and about the lack of after-school opportunities.
And the WE ARE SVANETI project was born.
And in 2016 the WE ARE SVANETI project was born. With the help of devoted school teachers and community members, we held story-writing and photography workshops that helped Svan children produce beautiful and touching stories about their lives, dreams and nature. The workshops were headed by professional photographers and writers who have provided ongoing mentoring to Svan children:

- Rosa Vroom (Spain)
- Rusudan Kaishauri (Georgia)
- Shota Iatashvili (Georgia)
Today the project family grows bigger by expanding the network of people and organisations involved in the conservation of Svaneti. In 2017 the We Are Svaneti Festival and photo competition is organised.

The Svaneti photostories project has received technical support from a team of non-profit organisations dedicated to nature protection and human rights: Balkani Wildlife Society (Bulgaria), CEE Bankwatch Network (Czech Republic/International) and Green Alternative (Georgia).
